Once upon a time...

There were two very good friends.

Best friends, in fact.

Wherever you found one, you usually found the other.

When one got thrown up on at school,

the other was there to dry the puke and transport her, and her nasty backpack, home. 

When one had her car "stolen," 

the other was there to forget where they parked it too, adding credibility to the story. 

When one lit her hair and eyebrows on fire,

the other was there to lend her a hat and draw her eyebrows back on.
When one got her wisdom teeth out,
the other decided to get hers out the same day so they could enjoy ice cream and watch "While You Were Sleeping" together. (PS- Best part..when the newspaper boy flies off his bike mid-throw)

And when one thought she was right,

the other always thought SHE was right.

Then one day, one of the friends decided she needed to leave the country.

She ended up in the land of the morning calm.

She spoke to Asians all day and shared news of the gospel with them. 

The other stayed in America and missed her every day.
And then 1.5 years passed in a flash.. and after many letters, one letter came that said this:
"I will see you in a few weeks!!!"

Can't tell you how excited I am to be reunited with this gal again...

This last one is a picture taken about a month before Juline hit the road to Korea. Can't wait for an after Korea photo in t-minus 2.5 weeks!!

You know you're getting old...

When you can't think of anything you really want for your birthday.

And when things do come to mind, it's practical, boring stuff....

like getting new brakes for your car.

Or new socks cause all mine have holes in them. 

On the other hand, I also have outrageous things come to mind.

Forget the new brakes, I should just get a whole new car.

Or the whole collection of travel totes by Vera Bradley (don't ask me why, I don't have any future travel plans, but I just love them)

I really haven't bought anything for myself since I got my new job, and I figure it's only right that I give myself a birthday present this year with my hard earned money. But it's a sad day when there is nothing I can even think of. Actually, it's probably a good day.. maybe it means I'm getting a little more responsible. I've gotten into this stage lately where I won't buy something unless I really like it. No more half hearted purchases. Which has eliminated a huge number of things I let myself get.

Anyway, without further ado, here is my feeble and outrageous birthday wish list.

Ok I'll admit it. I really do love birthdays. Still exciting every year. 

I think if I could pick anything that I really want though, it'd be a few really good books.

Ahoy Matey

So last week we did a little double date with a couple of friends that Rich and I set up earlier this summer. We decided to race sailboats. It was excellent fun. Although we should have chosen our launch site a little more carefully, because our poor little boats didn't stand a chance in the treacherous waters of the creek.

Jich ended up losing the battle, but kind of by default. Both boats shipwrecked rather quickly, and Rich had to do some rescuing... more than once. 

I love this next picture.. they are like little boys on an adventure.

They were no match for the trees and obstacles that awaited them at every turn, but they sure fought bravely. RIP little boats.

So I will be the first to admit, even though I'm a hygienist and have a career now.. (um weird).. it is quite the transition from school to an office. I make mistakes all the time and am still learning, but so far I've really enjoyed the patients I get to meet every day at work. They are so funny and interesting and it makes my job enjoyable.

Yesterday I had the most tender of patients, and it made me feel so good. It's when I have moments like this that I really love what I'm doing.. and make the stupid little things I do seem not so important :)

So a boy right around my age came in to get his teeth cleaned for the first time in years. Many years. He had a LOT going on. He had so much brown stain on his front teeth that he wouldn't smile all the way. He would barely smile so that his lips still covered up his top front teeth. He ended up needing periodontal work done because he had so much tartar and deep pockets, but I did an initial cleaning where I removed the stain and tartar around those front teeth so he wouldn't be so self conscious. I showed him some pictures of what was in his mouth before I removed any of it, to which he stated, " That looks horrible in there." Then after I was done I gave him a mirror to see the difference. He got this HUGE smile on his face and grinned up at me and he just kept saying," Thank you SO much." I walked him up to the front and he shook my hand and just kept saying how grateful he was and he couldn't stop smiling.

It was my favorite appointment so far. Such a rewarding thing for me to simply do my job and help him feel so much better about himself. That's why I love dentistry and orthodontics. With a little work, you can totally transform a smile and make people's self esteem so much better. I am so lucky to have such a great job!

What time is it?

 It's that time again friends. Come Thursday, I will be boating and bathing on the shores of Fremont Lake. I am thrilled at the prospect.

Also, one of my best friends since high school gets married this week, and one of my other besties from high school will tie the knot in a month. I am so happy for Dallan and Jesse.. except I can't help but wonder why everyone has to grow up? Everything changes. People come into your life and go out of your life as you get older. And sometimes, it makes me a little sad. Just a little. But then you meet new people and when you see the old friends, it is oh so sweet remembrances.

One thing I do know... I have had some really amazing friends over the years. I continue to meet new ones, while cherishing my old friendships as well. I know that I've really been made better by the friends I've had around me. I certainly believe Marlin K. Jensen said it well when he said...

"If we truly want to be tools in the hands of our Heavenly Father in bringing to pass his eternal purposes, we have only to be a friend."

August in a flash

I'm sorry I haven't posted in a long while.... life has been busy! 

The summer keeps plugging along beautifully. 

This was my first official week working as a hygienist! 

I work at Hancock Dental, and I think I'm going to love it. 

The office is really close and everybody is great friends. There's been a lot to learn, but so far I've really enjoyed it, and the patients are so fun.

 

We asked one little boy how much the tooth fairy is paying him for the teeth he is losing. He replied, I get $5 a tooth! I was shocked... I made like 50 cents a tooth. So I told him that... and he thought about it for awhile... and finally he reasoned, "Well.. my teeth must be better than yours!" He wasn't trying to be funny either... he just figured clearly it's what that meant. Gave the dentist and I a good laugh. 

First day of work!

 Other activities... my mom, Heather, Maren, and I went to Lagoon 2 weeks ago. ALWAYS love a day at Lagoon. Then last weekend it was Lyla's birthday party and the annual girls shopping trip at the Park City Outlets. Love to spend time with just the girls every once in awhile. 

 

 And this weekend I have the great fortune to babysit these little darlings. So excited! 

 Then next week it's off to Fremont for some excellent boating and camping with lots of the family. The Saturday we return from Fremont, my friend is getting baptized and I couldn't be more excited for her. THEN sometime before ISU starts on the 22nd, Rich will be home from Virginia. I'm sure you can guess my excitement for that event. 

Also, I got a letter from Juline yesterday and I'm so looking forward to her coming home. It's going to be such a joyous reunion in October :) 

 

It really has been an amazing summer and I feel SO blessed about the way things have worked out for me lately. But I'm peacin for now. Peace and blessings! Peace and blessings!
