fixer upper

So Rich and I visited the Farmers Market a week or two before he left for Virginia, just for fun, and first of all can I just say, that place is full of little gems. I truly enjoy walking around that place seeing the ridiculous things people try to sell. Like I would EVER want or use a rhinoceros yard figurine. And while we're on the topic, let's just get this out. People really put the ugliest things in their yards and I just wonder how they can possibly think it looks good.  But to each his own! Bless their hearts :)

Anyway, this has taken a serious turn to somewhere I wasn't planning on going. Back on topic here, after the Farmers Market we just wandered around Old Town looking in different stores. We ended up in the Thrift Store and found this kind of hideous little coffee table (or so I thought). Rich raved over it, saying how cool it would look if we fixed it up a little. We left shortly thereafter and I put it out of my mind. However, he comes over later and pulls me out to his truck and covers my eyes and when he uncovers them, there is that hideous coffee table in the back of his truck!

He dropped a whopping 5 bones on it. He is really amazing at fixing things and building and he just has all sorts of random talents, so he decided it was his project before he left for Virginia. I helped him with it and learned quite a bit in the process too. For example, I helped install wainscot by shooting a nail gun for the first time, sanded this beauty all down, and applied spackle! Are you impressed with the technical terminology? ....Yes I did have to look up how to spell wainscot and spackle. Things got a little busy before Rich took off though, so we never actually finished it completely. Currently it is sitting in his sister's storage shed until he returns. But it is going to be quite a work of art. Just imagine... a rich blend of off-white and mahogany, spray painted to perfection, complete with glorious tile to fill in those monstrous holes that currently await, sided by the most breathtaking wainscot the eye can behold. I'm afraid you are going to have to wait awhile for some real life after pictures, but just feast your eyes upon these for now!

We had fun. We also watched Nacho Libre whilst fixing this beauty up... Rich had never seen it! Unacceptable to me since I am a Nachooooooooo lover.
Until next time though,
OOxxoXx.

  1. My sweet friend! I love reading your blog, even though it makes me miss you. I'm so happy for you for graduating, and especially pleased that you seem to be developing a knack for carpentry.

If dental hygiene doesn't work out, you'd really make a stir in the carpentry industry with your long, golden locks. I smell an HGTV show in the works...

  2. GRACIE! I love reading YOUR blog. You are hilarious, it makes me miss you too. AND riding in the Reliant... 3 up front. So great. And I think you are on to something with an HGTV show... except I think I'd be like Tim the Tool Man Taylor as a carpentry host :)
