TAMING THE BEAST!

I just wanted to announce... even though all the people who read this blog probably already know.... but something amazing happened today. Yes, I took my final board exam. And it was an epic journey getting my patient there. More details to come. Be excited. Cause this story is so hysterical, and terrible, that I think my life is forever altered. And I want to do it justice.

I was quite amused at our orientation for the test though. It's an hour long series of short videos explaining testing procedures and answering questions we may have, because they are ridiculously strict about adhering to the correct policies. During one of the videos the "voice" was saying, "Once you are ready, sign up on the sheet to submit your patient to the examiners. 3 examiners will check in your patient. Once they have determined your patient's eligibility, they will send them back to you to begin the cleaning. You may receive a paper telling you your patient didn't qualify, and the reason or reasons they didn't qualify. Remain calm."

REMAIN CALM? Excuse me. Are you serious? These examiners have probably seen some wild reactions if they think including that warning in our instructions will help one bit. Everyone laughed pretty hard at that, because we all know that if your patient comes back to you and didn't qualify, you are in deep doo-doo. Then is the time you are going to be least calm... I think seriously distressed would be an understatement if that had happened to me today.

At the end of this video, they had a slide of "KEY POINTS TO REMEMBER" for the exam. The first one went like this: Remember, your patient is a critical part of the exam process. Make sure they know where and when to show up for your exam.

Bahaha, no really? We've only been screening for over a month now to find the perfect patient for boards, but now that you reminded me, I just realized I never told him what day it was on. Oh no!! I better go call them right now since my test is tomorrow!! Hopefully they can take off work on such short notice! Or in my case, get out of jail on such short notice!

Oh the joys. Our patient is the ONLY part of the exam process. If we don't have a patient, we don't have an exam to take. And we're out 1,000 bones. Probably this post is only going to be funny to me, but so be it. I want to savor the details of this week, because it was insane. And now it's Saturday night, and I'm going to live it up because hopefully (keeping my fingers crossed... I'll find out my results in a month) that was the LAST test I will ever have to take. And hopefully this will be me in a few months time....

HAPPY SATURDAY!! :)
