Can I just say.... this summer has seriously exceeded my expectations? Due to Rich being gone, and boards being taken, I figured this summer would be terribly lame. Boy was I wrong! I would rate this summer a..
10 out of 10
5 stars
or even the bees knees, if you will.
Seattle was the kickoff and it was soo much fun. Then my family went to Yosemite and that is probably the most beautiful place I've ever seen. The waterfalls were enormous this year and I was honestly blown away by the scenery. I think that's saying something too, because all my family does is visit national parks every year. After awhile, everything starts to look pretty much the same.... beautiful... but the same. But not Yosemite. It was a national park in a class of its own in my opinion!
Thenn last week I was so lucky and got to fly out to Virginia to visit Rich.
Best. trip. ever.
Loong flight.
Tuesday--flew out of Salt Lake at 10:45 A.M. Arrived in Virginia Beach at 10:30 P.M.
Wednesday--Rich worked most of this day minus a 3 hour lunch date with me :) That night we made Tacos for dinner and my favorite pink lemonade dessert and ate with his roommates (who happen to be my friends as well). It was a blast. Then we just talked and laughed, a lot, the rest of the night.
Thursday--he worked til about 1 and then we went and visited a home that the company Rich works construction for is working on. It's this big, gorgeous home right on the river. And they are the nicest people in the world. The dad insisted we take out his boat for the afternoon...
Who were we to resist?

Friday-- Woke up at 4 A.M. to drive up to D.C! We parked the Gonz at the Metro Station and rode the subway into the city. First we visited the Arlington Cemetery, then we rode over to the city center and saw the Lincoln Memorial (my favorite), the Washington Monument, the White House, the Air and Space Smithsonian Museum, and Chinatown.
My favorite picture of the trip. After lunch neither of us were feeling well at all. And there was nowhere to sit down! Finally we found this little cove right off the main drag and of course Rich falls asleep. This guy has skills that amaze me. One time he slept on the tops of 4 bar stools. Another time he slept underneath the kitchen table. And let's not forget the time he slept curled up over the heater vent on the hardwood floor in the kitchen entryway. And woke up with heater burns.
He makes me smile :)

This was such a good night! It was Saturday, my last night there. After Rich worked a little bit, we took off for the beach. I'd been soooo excited all trip to go to the beach. The waves were big, and I basically got pounded over and over. Totally worth it. Then we went walking along the boardwalk. I was super hungry and we passed a million places to eat but Rich kept saying no.. there's supposed to be lots of good places just a little further... so we kept going.
Fiiinally he's like Oh! There it is! But we don't stop in front of a restaurant...
No no.
We stop in front of a cruiser rental gig.
Loving my life right about then.
Basically I am obsessed with cruisers and Rich had been planning the whole trip to go down and rent some, then ride them along the boardwalk. We got to have them for 2 hours, and I was just smitten.
I'll leave it up to you to figure out if it was for the bikes or for the boy.
....Or both.
All in all, the trip was so fun and I'm sad to be home, although it is good to get back in the swing of things. Now I'm busy helping my dad at his office, picking raspberries, and gearing up for my mud run in September.
Oh, and I think I got a job as a hygienist.
Best summer ever.

yay for jill`s summer! sounds like you had a blast.
ReplyDeleteLooks so fun! I am quite jealous of the trips. Not the boy. I've got my own. :)
ReplyDeleteDoes she ever! Jill ahem. Your pre-Virginia or Pre-Boards Orem Excursions meant nothing??!!!??
ReplyDeleteNext time, I'll try to remember to sleep on a retaining wall, make sure we take a gazillion pictures while holding the camera at arms length and steal a bike from an elderly fat woman and let you cruise around on it down by Utah lake.
Your Chaco's tan this summer has fared much better than your subcutaneous magnanimity and gratitude. Or does the fact that no one in Orem is strawberry blonde justify your callousness?
Me thinks, This stinks.
Jill! I love your blog, and I also love Virginia! Trent and I lived there for a little while a couple years ago. Looks like you had a ton of fun!
